Human sculpture

Mammalian dive reflex

One thing i have become increasingly interested in is the difference between physical and psychological limitation and trying to break through the psychological barrier that in many cases inhibits our potential.
The mammalian dive reflex is the reflex that humans share with aquatic mammals such as otters and dolphins in which facial submergence in cold water slows the heart rate and redirects blood flow to allow the mammal to hold its breath for extended periods of time. With this reflex the human being could essentially hold its breath longer under water than on dry land.

Self-support

In my earlier self-support pieces the performer was often reliant on a man made object or surface to allow the subject to support itself against. However in these experiments here i removed all man made props and supports (except for the location) thus creating a piece of work with the fewest materials possible, simply using the human body.
